as all of you know by now i'm going to the motherland (punjab) soon and i was going to buy a lot of books. but even before that i have 3 (i think) extra copies of beginner's/kids' punjabi alphabet books.
and if you'd like send me your address and i'll mail it to you. first come first serve. when you're done you can choose to send it back. and when i get back from punjab i'll list some more titles here for you to "take" free of charge of course!

Why don't you pool your talent with Sardar Ik Singh and may be come up with a better book. It seems like there a few individuals and small groups working on similar things such as dictionary. I wish they would unite and pool all talents together to come up with ONE really great product (instead of 5-6 not so great) that would help the Sikhs and non-sikhs alike. I understand their are issues with copyrights, ownerships, credits to all appropriate parties and most importantly financial benefits of this product. But if the product is created in a non-profit environment by ONE organization, it will really show that Sikhs have the vision and the ability to work together in a larger team and come up with a great product. There is great Sikh talent out there such that of Ik Singh, but the team needs help.

That is great to hear that you guys are part of the same great team!! I have another question for Gurpartap Singh's Punjabi keyboard: Is there a way to mask the english keyboard with Punjabi one in the software without having to create a new punjabi keyboard. Kind of like, if you type on regular keybooard in English but the screen would show letters in Punjabi. It may need more hardware engineering but it is a thought that somebody may want to think about and if they wish can make a challenging project. It may already have been done since you guys can already type in Punjabi on this blog. I haven't learned how to do it yet. Are you just using a Punjabi font or actually using some sort of Punjabi keyboard that allows you to do this in any program and not just this blog? I could not find Punjabi or Gurmukhi in the selection of languages for typing either. Looks like there are a lot of very creative Sikh techies out there creating really cool toys, gadgets and software tools like Gurpartap has done. Please lets take it a step further if we can (I know this is hard work, needs a lot of money and resources). But it will be great if we could.
You know what I just think actually it could be easily done, if we can find out the manufacturer of a bilingual keyboard that can make Punjabi and English plastic keys. We just pop up the old english keys and we will have a bilingual keyboard. I amsure there are a few key manufacturers that can do it in India.
manjit, yes, it's already out there and it's included with Windows XP. I can switch from english to gurmukhi with a single mouse click.
The boys of Moga are working on Linux right now. the whole OS is written in Gurmukhi I think.
but if you windows xp...i can or anyone else on this blog can send you really really easy directions on how to set up your computer to type in two languages.
even more cool is that you can create your own key mapping. for example i can make the letter "A" type Urra instead of Erra.
